If you don't have the closed source driver you have to configure the normal sata mode of the ICH7R (in the BIOS) for your disk combined with the mirror disk driver "md" from linux to install a software raid. Writing data with RAID0 or RAID1 is performed by the closed source driver "megaide", so it can be called a software raid driver. This means that the controller has no intelligent raid logic or cache onboard, it only writes some configuration data to disk. The LSI RAID controller integrated in the ICH7R (part of the RX100S3) is a so called "fake raid" controller. In most cases this is more performant, because the closed source drivers work also with software RAID. First of all you have to know that RX100S3 is certified with RAID-Mode only for SLES8/9 and RHE元/4, because there are only drivers with closed source.Īll the other distributions of linux with kernel 2.6 (Debian, SuSE9 etc.) can only be used with software RAID.
